The Energy Social Initiatives Fund is one of Sakhalin Energy’s charity programmes that demonstrate the Company’s integrated and consistent approach to social transformations in the host region, as well as its commitment to addressing topical issues of local communities. The programme, launched in 2003, makes it possible to identify the most interesting and effective ways to solve problems that are relevant for local communities. Local support of such initiatives is not only an important contribution to solving problems, but it is also an opportunity to boost confidence among active citizens in their ability to improve life around them and to increase the potential of public organisations.

One of the principles applied by the Company in the competitive selection of non-profit projects and institutions is the principle of openness and transparency. Projects are evaluated and selected by an expert council that brings together representatives of the Company, the public, and the government.

The priorities of project funding are as follows:
• HSE and biodiversity conservation projects; • environmental and educational activities,
• culture and art,
• education,
• increasing social engagement,
• organising services for vulnerable social groups (namely, social adaptation and rehabilitation of the most vulnerable groups: disabled children, elderly people, etc.),
• physical fitness and sports promotion,
• development of volunteering,
• promotion of a healthy lifestyle and the introduction of energy-saving technologies.
